2nd-Dec-2009 11:15 am - Wednesday Fic Recs
With all the Misha squee I forgot to do my weekly rec post so it's a couple of days late. Sorry.

Dean/Castiel
The First Time by [info]eviltwin
Dean can't resist any more.
This is a really cute little fic and I love Castiel's voice in this

Asleep, At Heaven's Gate by [info]schmoooop
Wherein Gabriel schools Castiel on the finer things in life and teaches him how to laugh, swear in borrowed language, and take a leap of faith.
The language in this is so stunning and evocative. Absolutely beautiful.

And I Will Walk On Water by [info]tracy_loo_who
In which Dean discovers that the archangels didn't finish their job after all, and that demons picked up where they left off.
I don't normally read WIP fics but this was SO good I couldn't wait for it to be finished. The ending doesn't disappoint. This is an absolutely wonderful fic. I wish there were more long ones like this in the Dean/Cas fandom

I've Got Legs. Do You Like Bread? by [info]queenklu
Mike thinks Misha is new and interesting. Like paper airplanes.
Seriously, every single fic this author has written with this paring I have wanted to roll around in and keep forever. It's just SO cute!

1st-Dec-2009 08:45 am - To think rightly is to create
Welp, I almost made a majority for posts here per day in November. Almost!

Thanksgiving was nice, went to Mom's house and ate until we almost burst. Played Wii Sports for a lot of it, which was a nice way to waste an afternoon! Melody and Todd brought their wee one over, he's so adorable. So in between cute baby and cute doggy, it was pretty um, cute.

Besides some trepidation, I hauled myself out to the Horse Brass on Friday. (Was having one of those nobody likes me everybody hates me wahhhh days.) But it was great, lots of chatting and arguing about Joy Division v New Order and generally being drunk at people. Apparently our bar tab came to 14 pitchers and somewhere around 50-60 pints of beer. For 20. Yikes.

Did nothing all day Saturday, wanted to head to Orycon but couldn't muster the umph. Scowled at the tap every so often as we were under a boil water warning due to E. Coli in the Washington Park reservoir. What the fuck. 3rd world problems! Portland, such a nice place but don't drink the cheesing water.

Went and watched the Wigan v Sunderland match and have a full English breakfast first thing Sunday (first thing meaning 11:30am) with Pip at the Horse Brass again. He wanted to do something that reminded him of home. It was a decent game, but Wigan could not keep control of the ball. Sunderland, if they had a good striker, could be deadly. Wigan ended up winning 1-0, despite their nail biting incompetence.

We also found a place where we could buy Ribena, Aero and chocolate Hobnobs for my Pip. Oh and a little shop over off 82nd and Belmont sells Quality Street in tins. OMG. He was pretty happy. We were volunteering out of 82nd on Sunday afternoon through Hands on Portland. This mission? Sell Christmas trees for L'Arche Nehalem. We didn't get many in, but we had a good time with what we did sell.

Bought a case of bottled water and discovered the boil warning was lifted.
....
Yeah.

Things are ok. Christmas is creeping up. I want to go look at the pretty trees over in the convention center this weekend!

That would be "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" by Simon & Garfunkel and "California Dreaming" by The Mommas and the Poppas.

Yeah, I'm all Sixties.
30th-Nov-2009 09:43 pm - Listening to Celtic Woman
First order of business:

Happy Birthday, [info]metal_aria!

I'm sorry the greeting is late. I hope you had a lovely birthday!

State of the Body: I don't know if I have the flu or just a cold, but I felt crappy enough to stay home from work, today. Thank God for Tylenol PM.

Tonight's Noise: I think I've figured out why I'm under-enthused about Celtic Woman. Mark has been listening to them on the TV tonight. I wasn't paying much attention. After a while, I asked him what he was watching, and he told me. I told him I had thought he was listening to a concert of tunes from recent Disney movies.

Celtic Woman sounds to me like Disney songs--you know, the sort that are in Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, etc. Their voices are too pretty, and they have no personality. Their songs are sappy.

(whine, whine, whine, grump, grump, grump)

And they scoop when they sing. Bleah.

However, their performance of "Ni Sen La" rocks. Great song and great English verse they put to it!

Writing: I feel the need to write some Snape and Graves fan fiction. Come on, Paul and Severus, talk to me.
30th-Nov-2009 10:13 pm - So much for rule #1
Have no idea where this came from originally. I found it in [info]honeyblack's journal

From this weekend:

“So how do you know them?” He looked so confused, like he forgot the internet existed.
“Um, online. Like, a fan site, and…”
“Oh really?” he looks suddenly curious. “Which one?”
“Um… I can’t-”
He smirked. “The secret one that I, uh, don’t know about?”
“Um… I… maybe? I… can’t really say…”
He laughed. “That’s good. No, it’s good. I like… I like the secrecy of it all.” he laughed again, looking slightly smug, in my opinion, like he’d discovered something really awesome. "So, yeah. Tell them I say hi, and hope they're OK and stuff."

Oh, Misha, you are so awesome!

30th-Nov-2009 07:39 pm - Misha squee!
Greetings one and all! I am home from Collectormania and if you've been reading my tweets over the weekend you might have an inkling of how much I enjoyed myself. Misha was absolutely wonderful. Charming, funny and (dare I say it?) even more attractive in person.

Because I am a dedicated little fangirl I did a little journal writeup after each day so I didn't forget anything (although I suspect there IS stuff I have forgotten) and I also took a rather epic amount of photos during Misha's talk. So if you're interested here it all is (spread over a few posts so I don't break anyone's computer)

There are some semi-spoilers for S5 in here (stuff that hasn't aired yet). Nothing major but hints at things.

Mish Mish )

Right. Talk photos. There are a lot. I mean A LOT. About 70 in total. I'm going to spread them over two or three posts but they're still not going to be very dialup friendly I'm afraid.

Some of the photos are a little bit blurred and that's mostly down to Misha moving around a lot. LOL.

And here are the rest. Apologies for the blurriness of some of them. The man has ants in his pants!

30th-Nov-2009 12:37 pm - Ad Fail?
Internets, can I get a ruling on this? I saw this ad in the concourse and I thought, "Whut?"

I know it's supposed to be leaving vitamins for Santa but they are nondescript pills. It makes me wonder why Santa is so jolly. Also, is leaving pills out for someone else a good idea?
