Well things have kicked off quite dramatically here. I’ve spoken to Viv and she is safe at home and keeping me up to date on the situation there. Fortunately living in a quiet area means less chance of attack, as long as your careful. I've given her advise on keeping quiet and staying out of sight. She has my copy of the
Zombie Survival Guide. Best few quid we ever spent it turns out. That and years of watching horror movies.
As for me, well I’m stuck here at work and having to make the most of it.
Most of the management for the whole company seems to have disappeared. Either they didn’t make it in, or maybe they knew something before the rest of us?
Anyway not long after my last post the Head of Security here (well, I say head, the nearest to a head that is here today) called me and said he had heard I had some MOD experience and if I had any idea what to do.
Why did I do it? I had one of those mad moments where I could hear the words coming out of my mouth but did not believe what I was hearing. I told him that under these circumstances, and with the lack of any outside contact I would have to take charge under MOD emergency protocols and everyone should ignore any usual orders and follow me.
What is more amazing that me saying that, is that they believed me!
Firstly I got Security to get as many people together on one place as possible but to make sure any injured or ‘suspicious acting people’ be placed in a separate secure area. I told them that people can leave if they want to but if they stay they have to follow my lead and stick together, following the basic rules.
In total we have 127 people. Three possibly effected by whatever this is and have been locked in separate rooms and being tended to by first aiders. We have no one else with medical knowledge. I’m waiting for a report.
I have Security and a few of the more active volunteers checking all the doors and windows and locking them. They are also looking for any other people stuck in offices or anything.
A second group I have collecting all the fire extinguishers and anything that could be used as a weapon.
We are gathering in the café area. Currently we still have power and we have a generator. I’m getting the tech guys to turn off any systems that are not needed to conserve what power we have, and to help avoid any fires if anything kicks off.
A lot of people (especially the telesales girls) are terrified and wanting to know what is going on and why. I made a little speech stating that whatever was happening and why were inconsequential at this time. I assured them that people far more qualified than us would be looking for solutions and our job was to stay alive.
I told them that although these effected people may look like humans they are not any more. They could not be reasoned with and want to kill us (I avoided the 'Z' word or the mention of their eating habits). It was a true kill or be killed situation and moral issues needed to be put to one side.
I told the crowd if anyone of them felt they could in no way use force to protect themselves that they needed to let me know and they would be given a role that hopefully would avoid contact wit the effected.
I was surprised how many people felt that when it came to it, bashing the brains out of someone would not be a problem.
However, those who were not ‘combat orientated’ were put to work collecting anything of use. Also we had several pans of boiling water put on. Not only for medical use, but for use as a weapon if needed.
I advised that from what I knew the effected do not feel pain and once they had seen you would not stop until you or they were dead or immobile. So if an attack did occur it was best to either aim for the head or legs, whichever was more likely to stop them. If one of the effected is immobilised it should then be dispatched as soon as possible by a strong blow to the head.
Any one who gets injured by one of the effected must be quarantined and would be treated well. I also added that if I found anyone hiding an injury, effect or not, I would personally ‘despatch’ them for putting the rest of us at risk.
I also told them that my main priority was to save as many people as possible for as long as possible. And everything else was secondary.
The First Aiders have arrived so I’m off to see the injured.
BLITEOTW.
